The Temporary Works Coordinator Training Course is a 2-day advanced course designed for temporary works coordinators, construction managers and project engineers, and anyone who works with contractors involved with the planning, procurement and management of temporary works, including those who may be appointed as a Temporary Works Coordinator.

This course is also suitable for those who will be appointed as a Temporary Works Designated Individual such as company executives, directors and senior managers including those in a quality and compliance role. This course is CITB certified.

Accessing online learning

Online courses are delivered via Microsoft Teams or Zoom. You can join the course via any internet browser and entering the meeting ID and password provided in your joining instructions.

Objective

This training course meets the following requirements outlined in BS 5975-1:2024 clause 4.2.1 entitled the temporary works coordinator to:

understand the duties of a temporary works coordinator
understand the procedures outlined in BS 5975-1:2024 Section 2
understand the principles of design and build risk management

Prerequisites

You must have a good understanding of spoken and written English. Learners are expected to have a working knowledge of the following legislation including Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, CDM, PUWER, LOLER, PPE, manual handling operations and work at height regulations.

A key issue for temporary works is health and safety, so learners need to be prepared to discuss how health and safety legislation is relevant to temporary works, as well as which Approved Codes of Practice (ACOPs) and guidance notes may assist or contribute to safe practices in temporary works.

Joining your course

Once you’ve booked, you'll be sent joining instructions and links to complete course registration and a pre-course questionnaire. You should be available from 08:00am, or the time specified in your course joining instructions. The course should be complete by 17:00pm daily.

Course publications

For remote learning, course publications are provided electronically via eBooks at no cost. Access to the Study Guide will be provided by your tutor. For classroom learning, course publications are provided in hard copy at no cost.

Course assessment

You will be required to complete a final exam on completion of your course. There are 18 multiple-choice questions and 4 free-text questions. You will be given guidance on how to approach the exam during your course and all the materials to be able to pass it.

Frequently asked questions

What is the pass mark?

To gain the qualification, you must achieve at least 78% in the final exam.

What happens if I don’t pass the exam?

If you score at least 63% you may be offered an exam resit. If you score less than 63%, or score less than 78% following the exam resit, you will need to complete the 2-day CITB Temporary Works Coordinator Training Course again.
